A Hand of Hope

Those who talk about Jesus tend not to be too popular in circles outside the church. What is so offensive about Christianity that would cause such unpopularity? Why such little tolerance for Jesus? The Bible states many reasons, the foremost is explained by Jesus himself: “And this is the judgment, that the light is come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the light; for their deeds were evil. 20  “For everyone who does evil hates the light, and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. 21“But he who practices the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be manifested as having been wrought in God.”John 3:19-21. The light came, it is Christ, but many love the darkness and reject hope.

Are you one who turns from this hope? Consider the story of a rebellious sea captain who disregarded the simplest presentation of hope, a buoy holding a bell that warned sailors of the dangerous Scotland coast. The captain had total disregard for the warning buoy, and in a drunken spree, he cut the bell from its moorings and it sank into the depths of the sea.

Sometime later the ship of that same captain was caught in a storm in that area. In vain his men listened for the guiding sound of that bell, but they could not hear it. It was deep down in the depths. As a result the ship went down with its entire crew.

Jesus said “While you have the light, believe in the light, in order that you may become sons of light.” – John12:35. In other words, don’t mock the hand of hope, but rather embrace Him while there is still time. And when your life is at its end, and you have lived it more abundantly with the hope and peace that comes in Christ, you will not dread it, because it is just the beginning of your eternity face to face with Christ.
