Reading with Rover

Tuesday, November 13, 6pm

Ages 4 and older, ages 6 and younger with adult.

Build reading skills and confidence by reading aloud to a certified therapy dog in a welcoming environment. Reading with Rover is a community-based literacy program working with schools and libraries throughout the greater Seattle area.

A space for teens who are queer, questioning or allies, to meet, socialize, hang out and lead.

IdeaX: Stop Motion Animation

Tuesday, November 6, 3:30pm

Grades 7-12.

Make your own mini-movie using stop motion! Learn how to create your own video with an app, clay and Legos. Move objects in simple increments between individually photographed frames, creating the illusion of movement when the series of frames is played as a fast sequence.

Renton Teen Round Table

Wednesday, November 14, 4:30pm

Grades 7-12.

Renton Teen Round Table (or RT2 for short) is the teen leadership group of the Renton regional libraries. This is a forum to give teens in the greater Renton community leadership opportunities and a voice in planning programs, have the opportunity to volunteer at their community library, and meet like-minded students interested in making their community a better place.

Students will earn volunteer credit for their participation.

Building your Resume for College

Wednesday, November 28, 7pm

Best suited for students and their families in grades 7-11.

Learn what colleges look for when they review applications and how to start building your CV while in high school. Areas include academics, volunteering and community service, summer programs, internships, and employment. Feel free to bring in one sample of your resume for critique!

Owl: A Year in the Lives of North American Owls with Paul Bannick

Saturday, November 3, 11am

Award winning photographer Paul Bannick presents video, sound, stories from the field and several dozen new images from his recent book: Owl: A Year in the Lives of North American Owls. Paul uses intimate yet dramatic images to follow owls through the course of one year and in their distinct habitats. His program shows how owls use the unique resources available to them in each habitat to face those challenges.

Get Enrolled: ORCA LIFT and Basic Food

Thursday, November 8, 1-3pm

Drop in to register for ORCA LIFT and/or Washington State’s Basic Food Program. ORCA LIFT is a reduced fare on area public transit for income-qualified riders, ages 19 and older. An Orca-to-Go customer service representative will often be here for seniors, people with disabilities and kids to get a reduced fare pass.

Basic Food is what Washington calls the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), a USDA program that helps people make ends meet by providing monthly food benefits. Individuals and families may apply.

Birds of the Great Salt Lake

Saturday, November 10, 11am

Presented by the Rainier Audubon Society.

The Great Salt Lake Basin encompasses the number one stopover for migrating birds West of the Mississippi. Birds by the thousands stop in the Basin each spring and fall to fatten up for the next leg in their journey. We will discuss the importance of this area and the ecological pressures on it to be able to exist in the future.

Coordinated Entry for All (CEA) ensures that people experiencing homelessness in King County can get help finding stable housing by identifying, evaluating and connecting them to housing support services and resources. Take the first step and drop in to meet with a Family Development Specialist from Multi-Service Center.

Rent Smart: Tenant Rights Workshop

Solid Ground’s tenant counselors offer a workshop for current and future renters. Know and assert your rights as tenants, navigate the housing search and landlord screening process, protect yourself from eviction and housing loss, and learn how to get deposits back and repairs made.

Neighborhood Legal Clinics

Tuesdays, 6:30pm

The King County Bar Association provides free 30-minute consultations with volunteer attorneys to any King County residents with civil legal issues. This clinic location is in partnership with the Loren Miller Bar Association which provides a safe space for clients of color. Attorneys cannot represent clients but can refer to other assistance.

Horror in Literature 101 Series

Reading Group

Saturday, November 3, 2pm

Discuss short horror stories, women authors in the genre and share interpretations and experiences with the stories.

Those who have written stories may exchange copies.

Writing Workshop

Saturday, November 10, 2pm

For new and experienced writers. Writers’ can share their horror writing with the group or listen to what others have written. Bring what you’ve been working on or write something new with inspiration from the readings..

Reading Group
