MLK Day of Service Volunteer Party
January 21 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
The secret is out! Farming is really a year round activity and there’s so much we need your help with this winter. Although there’s a lot less food growing in the field this time of year, there is a lot to do to get the farm ready for spring. We need your help to keep Elk Run Farm’s operations running smoothly year-round!
This MLK Day we will be doing lots of winter farm maintenance including blackberry removal and sheet mulching. This is a perfect opportunity for those interested in the full spectrum of farming tasks and anyone who needs a little hard work to get them through these grey PNW winters. These are hands-on tasks so prepare to get a little muddy/wet depending on the weather that day. The farm has plenty of work gloves but please feel free to bring any gear from home that will make you feel more comfortable.
Join us rain or shine from 10 am to 2 pm. We will take a break at noon for a quick lunch so be sure to bring some food to snack on.
This event is part of United Way King County’s annual day of service. Please register for the event by following this link:
Elk Run Farm strives to be as inclusive as possible with volunteer opportunities so we encourage families and people of all abilities to attend if interested. Volunteers of all ages are welcome, we just ask that anyone under 12 be accompanied by an adult. Don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions!
As always, we strongly encourage everyone attending to wear layers and bring a reusable water bottle.
