Mayor Sean Kelly presided over the Monday, April 14, City Council meeting with all Councilmembers present.

Sworn in as the newest Councilmember for the City was Syd Dawson. Councilmember Dawson takes the place of Megan Sheridan after she vacated her position on March 13, 2018.

Ordinance No. O-18-643, amending the Salary Schedule (Appendix J) of the Biennial Budget (Ordinance No. O-16-596) to add new classifications and new salary ranges commensurate with the classifications. Passed 7-0

Ordinance No. O-18-642, to extend interim regulations related to multi-family dwellings in the Town Center and Community Business Zones for a period of six months. Passed 7-0

Resolution No. R-18-1239, authorizing the City Manager to execute a King County Water Works Program Grant Agreement for award of grant funds between the City of Maple Valley and King County. Passed 7-0

Resolution No. R-18-1238, constituting Final Acceptance of the Public Works Contract with Wel West Construction Inc. for construction of Project Number P-41 244thAvenue Shared Use Path. Passed 7-0

Resolution No. R-18-1237, constituting Final Acceptance of the Public Works Contract with Mike McClung Construction Co. for construction of Project Number P-15 Community Center Parking Lot. Passed 7-0

Proclamation: That the week of May 13-19, 2018, be declared as Police Week. The City of Maple Valley publicly and proudly salutes the service of law enforcement officers in our community and in communities across the nation.

Proclamation: That the week of May 21-27, 2018, be declared as National Public Works Week. All our citizens were urged to join with representatives of the American Public Works Association and government agencies in activities, events and ceremonies designed to pay tribute to our public works professionals, engineers, planners, managers, technicians, maintenance workers and employees to recognize the substantial contributions they make to protecting our national health, safety, and quality of life.

Proclamation: That May 14, 2018, be declared as Benicio “Beni” Bryant Day. Thirteen year old Beni recently made a trip to Germany to compete in The Voice Kids where four out of five potential coaches turned their chairs indicating an interest in becoming Beni’s coach. Beni ultimately chose Max Giesinger as his coach. The City of Maple Valley wishes him well and that more of his dreams come true.

Monday, May 14– Councilmembers unanimously adopted a motion asking for the county to develop a plan to assist in a complete and accurate count and participation in the 2020 Census of all county residents, regardless of age, income, race, housing status and citizenship status.
