Several buildings at a grain storage facility were destroyed by fire this morning in the 27600 block of 78 Ave. S.
The fire, which could be seen for miles, was first reported at 5:15 am. When firefighters arrived from Puget Sound Fire, Valley RFA, and South King F/R, three separate buildings were burning, forcing them to fight from the outside in a “defensive” mode.
A property caregiver confirmed that all employees were out of the building and accounted for. There were no reported injuries.
The fire is still not completely out, with hot spots being extinguished by the remaining crews.
A King County Fire Investigator is on scene to determine the fire’s cause.
Smoke and fire forced the closure of the BNSF rail lines for a short period of time, which slowed several morning commute Sounder trains. S. 277 Street was also partially closed due to fire apparatus and fire hose.
An unrelated double shooting took place one-half mile north of the fire scene at approximately 8:00 am. Please contact Kent PD for information on that incident.
