The 17th annual celebration of “Hooked On Fishing” Opening Day Trout Season on Lake Wilderness wrapped up at noon on Saturday, April 27, with no shortage of impressive fish caught by people around the community.
The festivities began at 3 p.m. on Friday, April 26, with tent camping at Lake Wilderness and went into the night, with the derby officially starting at midnight. At 5 a.m., the Maple Valley Rotary served 500 breakfasts to attendees, including pancakes, eggs, ham, coffee and hot chocolate. At 6:30 a.m., the young anglers fish school opened for kid 9 and under to catch their own fish in an enclosed pen.
More activities over the span of the event included hot dogs and hamburgers sold by Maple Valley Rotary, Fun and Games presented by Fred Meyer, Story Time presented by THS Interact Club, and an outdoor movie (Cars) sponsored by Black Diamond Maple Valley Kiwanis Club.
While the coveted “Tagged Fish” wasn’t caught this year, there were still many participants who caught impressively sized fish and the event was, once again, a success.
