City of Maple Valley recognizes industry weeks

The City of Maple Valley is recognizing three special weeks in May. The special weeks are National Small Business Week (May 5- 11, 2019); National Economic Development Week (May 6-11, 2019); and National Travel & Tourism Week (May 5-11, 2019).

Tim Morgan, Economic Development Manager for the City of Maple Valley, states, “These special weeks provide us the opportunity to celebrate the important industry segments that make our city vibrant. Each of these special weeks helps us to promote and encourage economic activity in our City.”

For more than 50 years, the President of the United States has issued a proclamation announcing National Small Business Week, which recognizes the critical contributions of America’s entrepreneurs and small business owners as well as honors the United States’ top entrepreneurs. There are currently 30 million small business in the United States. The City of Maple Valley partners with the Maple Valley/Black Diamond Chamber of Commerce throughout the year to help promote and grow local businesses which includes surveying businesses to gain valuable information about the business climate and offering workforce development courses through Green River College.

National Economic Development Week was created by the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) in 2016 to increase awareness of local programs that create jobs, advance career development opportunities, and increases the quality of life in communities everywhere. This special week includes activities in communities large and small designed to highlight the importance of economic development and the good work that economic developers do every day. Because of the business development and employment growth opportunities currently available in Maple Valley, the City of Maple Valley created the Economic Development Department in 2017 to assist with this effort.

National Travel and Tourism Week is an annual tradition for the U.S. travel community when travel and tourism professionals across the country unite to celebrate the value travel holds for our economy, businesses and personal well-being. A few of the Maple Valley tourism assets that are promoted throughout the year are Lake Wilderness Park,

Lake Wilderness Golf Course, Lake Wilderness Arboretum, Maple Valley Historical Society Museum, mountain bike trail system, and special City events. In addition, the City of Maple Valley has placed tourism advertisements in local and statewide

publications.
