Black Diamond’s Miners Day celebration went by the wayside in year 2020 due to Covid conditions sweeping the country. The town’s traditional event came back with a full smile in 2021. Several hundred residents walked Railroad Avenue where vendors and craftsmen, local businesses, games and competitions promoted the event’s theme, “Bring Your Smile!”

Mariah’s sketch documented her view of an historic building located across the street and directly behind her, the Black Diamond Bakery. Next on the docket for vendors, artists, participants and visitors is Black Diamond Labor Days on September 5 and 6
(LEFT) Two smiling faces drawn in chalk by Hailey Sato had the desired effect. Her artwork brought smiles and compliments from all who viewed those faces. Black Diamond’s fun-filled chalk drawing competition was divided into age categories. Hailey was in the age 0 to 17 bracket. The theme for Miners Day was captured in her notation, Bring Your Smile!
