Local Students Excelled  in Their Studies

The University of Rhode Island is pleased to announce that Katelyn Welsh of Maple Valley has been named to the Spring 2023 Dean’s List.

Students named to the Dean’s List represent nearly all of Rhode Island’s cities and towns, all six New England states, New York and New Jersey, and many other states and countries.

To be included on the Dean’s List, full-time students must have completed 12 or more credits for letter grades which are GPA applicable during a semester and achieved at least a 3.30 quality point average. Part-time students qualify with the accumulation of 12 or more credits for letter grades which are GPA applicable earning at least a 3.30 quality point average.

Ray Harrison Fenton of Maple Valley, earned a(n) Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from University of Maryland Global Campus in spring 2023.

Fenton was one of nearly 3,400 students who earned degrees from UMGC in the spring semester. Graduates came from all 50 states, four U.S. territories, and 22 countries. The average age of a UMGC graduate in the spring class of 2023 is 35 years old. 

University of Maryland Global Campus was founded more than 75 years ago specifically to serve the higher education needs of working adults and military servicemembers. Today, UMGC is the largest provider of postsecondary education in Maryland and continues its global tradition with online and hybrid courses, more than 175 classroom and service locations worldwide, and more than 125 degrees and certificates backed by the reputation of a state university and the University System of Maryland. 

Daniel Simons of Black Diamond, WA was among the students conferred their degrees. Simons was a student in the Graduate College whose program of study was Physics. The degree awarded was a Doctor of Philosophy.

Logan Stempniak of Covington, WA has been named to the spring 2023 dean’s list at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

Students receiving a 3.9 grade point average or higher are placed on the chancellor’s list, while those receiving a grade point average of between 3.5 and 3.89 are named to the deans’ list. The lists recognize students’ outstanding academic achievements.

Alyssa Burkhead of Black Diamond was named to the Abilene Christian University Spring 2023 Dean’s Honor Roll. Burkhead is a senior majoring in Communication Disorders.

Burkhead was among more than 1,200 students named to the Spring 2023 Dean’s Honor Roll. To qualify for the Dean’s Honor Roll, students must be registered for 12 or more credit hours and earn a GPA of 3.6 or higher.
