Plant Sale Raises Over $2,000 for Black Diamond Library

The Friends of the Black Diamond Library held their annual plant sale on May 2 at the Ten Trails Community Center, selling over 300 plants and raising $2,069.95 for library programs. Organizers were moved by the outpouring of generosity from local businesses, nurseries, and community members alike.

“We had several generous donors, including Covington Creek Nursery and Fred Meyer in Maple Valley,” said Larissa DeSmet, a Friends board member. “ It was striking to me that both said, “What do you need? Take whatever you want!”

New this year was GE&B Nursery in Enumclaw, whose generosity made a strong first impression. Some community members donated plants from their own home gardens, with volunteer Amy M. contributing at least 80 plants on her own.

Other community donors included Hobart Farms Nursery, The Fuchsia Farm, 13 Hens Farm, Free the Green, Hanging Gardens Native Plant Farm, Johnsons Home and Garden, King County Conservation District, 300 Trees Project, and Home Depot.

The money raised will support library programs for adults, youth and children. “Companies showed a genuine commitment to supporting our community,” said DeSmet. “It was so rewarding and encouraging to see how much people – big and small – care about the library.”
