Neighbors Make a Difference

Since 1992, communities around the nation have joined together on the fourth Saturday of October to combine their efforts and make a difference. National Make a Difference Day is considered one of the most encompassing days for people to lend a helping hand. Whether you help a neighbor, give to a charity or clean up a park, every effort makes a difference.

This year, the Lake Sawyer Park Foundation hosted an event to help clean up Lake Sawyer Regional Park. Despite the impending “bomb cyclone” weather, volunteers packed their pruners to clear out blackberry patches and sweep away Scotch broom, both invasive species that threaten native park flora. Nearly a dozen park enthusiasts used the occasion to gather their gear and battle the bramble to improve views of Rock Creek and clear a new access trail on Scotch broom hill for park travelers to trek upon.
