Mother Nature Smiled Upon Hometown Christmas
A gust of heavy wind blew into Black Diamond at 10:00 a.m. just as festivities for Hometown Christmas were to begin. As volunteers rushed to hang on to supplies and shelters, they worried that plans for a hearty attendance would topple along with the makeshift tents.
As it turned out, no atmospheric river any other type of rain or wind was on its way. Mother Nature smiled upon the day’s celebration. So did Laurie Evans, BD historical society’s secretary who chaired the yearly event. “We had 874 recorded visitors, up from previous years,” she emailed the volunteers who she described as “just awesome.” She added, “Our junior volunteers received many many compliments! Jillian, as Frosty, was so interactive that the kids just loved seeing her; Braedon and his sister were so helpful with the treasure hunt and the bookmark coloring and assembly; Elves Hunter and Olivia were the best elves ever. Santa remarked multiple times about how wonderful they worked the crowd; and then there was Ian — what can you say — he does it all!”
