Continuing several years of tradition to aid roadside appearance in the Maple Valley community, Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church welcomes volunteers with heavy-duty gloves and tools to help them “Cut the Corner.”
On Wednesday, July 26 at 6:00 p.m., SVLC workers will attack blackberry brambles, fallen trees and heavy duty gardening at the triangular intersection of SE 216th Street and Maple Valley Highway (across from Maple Valley Market). For the third consecutive year, a hardy crew with suitable yard tools expects to make the triangle more visibly accommodating, plus accessible to walkers who cross from 216th to the market without using road shoulders in such a heavily trafficked location. The triangle is currently in overgrown and unkempt condition from a tough and lengthy wintertime.
A 6:00 o’clock afternoon start time was set for Cut the Corner, to encourage those coming home from work to stop and assist. The chores are expected to be completed by sundown. Dinner hour was not forgotten in the plans. There will be hot dogs, chips and cold drinks available.
Cut the Corner’s location at a heavily traveled intersection makes it a suitable work situation for adults only. The SVLC community work crew, in a toast to sunny conditions, will be easily spotted along Highway 169 wearing bright yellow t-shirts.
