Total of $90,000 available in 2019 for unincorporated area projects; Proposals must be submitted by Oct. 26 for up to $5,000 in Grant funding
King County Executive Dow Constantine today announced the availability of $90,000 in Community Service Area Program grant funding for a wide variety of educational, cultural and environmental projects to benefit residents of unincorporated areas.
Funding is available for projects costing less than $5,000. Project examples include:
- Events, such as concerts, festivals, and educational and safety projects;
- Neighborhood improvement projects, such as tree planting, graffiti removal and clean-up;
- Community-led planning or training; and
- Signs for a neighborhood or community.
“Volunteers in unincorporated King County make their neighborhoods better by using this grant funding to support activities such as movie and music nights, community work parties, clean-up events, and other local gatherings critical to strong neighborhoods,” said Alan Painter, manager of King County’s unincorporated Community Service Area program.
Proposals should demonstrate how activities would be accessible to all unincorporated King County residents regardless of race, income, or language spoken. A minimum match of 25 percent of the total project cost is required in the form of volunteer time, cash, or in-kind services. Applications are due Friday, October 26.
Priority for funding will be given to local, community-led organizations in unincorporated King County that encourage collaborations and partnerships.
In the last seven years, more than 240 projects have been funded throughout unincorporated King County, including:
- Music and movie nights in local parks;
- National Night Out events;
- Support for local senior centers and food banks;
- Investments in neighborhood tool libraries;
- Community signage; and
- Youth projects.
