Kent, Wash – January 6th, 2020 – At 8:27 AM this morning Puget Sound Fire units were dispatched to a mobile home fire at the 800 block of West Valley Highway South.
A close friend, staying with the husband and wife, had just left the trailer when he noticed smoke coming from the rear of the home. While on the phone with 911, the smoke erupted into flames sending a smoke column into the sky which could be seen from downtown Kent.
The husband, who was working the night shift, had just pulled up and seeing the fire realized his wife was still in the home and so quickly ran inside thinking he could save her. By now the fire was so intense the roof in the rear of the home had collapsed into the bedroom.
Fire Engine 371 arrived and did a quick knock down of the fire from outside so a crew could then enter the home to perform a rescue. Additional fire units protected an adjacent home where the fire had already broken one window out and started to ignite items in the window ledge.
Both the husband and the wife were found in the rear of the home where they had died from the smoke and heat.
A Puget Sound Chaplin was on scene when family and friends arrived to provide comfort for their loss and be there for the neighbors who watched the fire.
South King County Medic One was ready to assist but sadly their services were not needed.
