Maple Valley City Council votes to support Tahoma School District ballot measures

The City of Maple Valley City Council voted in support of the Tahoma School District’s two ballot measures at the Special Council Meeting held on Monday, January 6. Mayor Sean P. Kelly presided over the meeting and the motion was carried unanimously, 7-0.

Passage of the four-year Educational Programs and Operations Levy would replace an expiring levy and would increase the existing levy amount from $1.50 per $1,000 in property value to $2 per $1,000. The levy will raise the additional funds needed to support the education and school experience in the Tahoma School District.

The four-year Technology Levy will increase school property taxes by an estimated 47 cents per $1,000 in assessed property value in 2021, declining to an estimated 40 cents per $1,000 in assessed value in 2024. The funds raised will fund classroom technology and support.

Voters will be asked to consider the measure on the February 2020 special election ballot. The February special election deadline is Tuesday, February 11.
