City of Maple Valley Parks & Recreation Status Update – May 12, 2020

Based on information from Public Health officials & the Governor’s “Stay Home Stay Healthy” Order, cities across the state, including Maple Valley, have implemented a number of measures to prevent large gatherings and help flatten the curve of COVID-19 infections.

On May 4, 2020, Governor Inslee signed a new COVID-19 order for a phased re-opening of Washington’s economy. The link to that Phased Approach to Recovery announcement can be found https://www.governor.wa.gov/news-media/inslee-signs-new-covid-19-order-phased-re-opening-washingtons-economy

Based on information available to us, best-case scenarios, keeping staff safe, and considering the planning & coordination required for programs, events, registrations, sponsors, etc., the City has aligned reopening activities and amenities with a Phase in the Governor’s plan.

On May 11, City Council approved the following update to Maple Valley’s “return to play”:

Phase 2 (earliest Re-Opening date of June 1): Parking Lots, Restrooms, Sport/Tennis Courts, Disc Golf Course, and Turf Fields for unscheduled use.

Phase 3 (earliest re-opening date of June 22): Programs, Playgrounds, Dog Park, Skate Parks

Phase 4 (earliest re-opening date of July 13): Rentals, Events, Drinking Fountains, and Turf Fields for scheduled use.

Dates are subject to change as the State’s Phases are updated and new information develops. The City continues to monitor the situation for a “Return to Play,” and will provide additional information as it becomes available.

A current list of closures can be found on the City website.
