Lakeside Industries’ Receives Permits to Relocate Covington Facility to SR 169

On April 15, 2022, King County issued the permits necessary for the relocation of Lakeside Industries’ Covington asphalt plant to the industrial zoned property on SR 169 between Maple Valley and Renton.

“Lakeside is pleased to move forward with the relocation of our current Covington facility to the Maple Valley area,” said Mike Lee, President of Lakeside Industries. “As a local, family-owned company, we look forward to serving the needs of South King County. When constructing roads, working on public agency projects and private developments, it is essential to have an asphalt facility near the projects,” Lee continued.

The new site will improve conditions on the property which was degraded from the former owners’ prior industrial activity over the last 100 years. As part of the operation and an ongoing commitment to the environment, Lakeside will capture, treat and infiltrate all stormwater, thus improving the conditions adjacent to the Cedar River. Lakeside will also restore and expand the critical area buffers on the property. As noted in the County’s environmental determination, “the restoration of buffers for wetlands and streams proposed by [Lakeside] is far beyond Code requirements.”

Lakeside has a longstanding record of environmental sustainability, earning the King County Green Globe Award for environmental stewardship. “We are partners of the communities in which we serve—our investment in our operations, people and communities not only delivers environmentally sustainable results, but also fosters trust and confidence,” said Karen Deal, Environmental and Land Use Director at Lakeside.

“We look forward to working with our new neighbors in the area, providing many direct and indirect skilled, family-wage jobs and revenue, and enabling Lakeside Industries and our team members to make positive impacts on a wide range of organizations and institutions,” Deal added.

Lakeside will work with the County on next steps toward development of the property.
