Last weekend July 21st-23rd at Pacific Raceways under sunny skies and the stands full of drag racing fans the NHRA brought the ground shaking thunder of the 34th Annual Flav-R-Pac Northwest Nationals. There were Top Fuel dragsters, Funny Cars and for the first time ever the Pro Stock Motorcycles. Drivers and teams came in from and around the country and Canada to compete for the coveted “Wally” trophy and points toward the 2023 Championship.
Locally there were four drivers that competed in Super Street, Super Gas and Super Comp classes. From Maple Valley was Jim Mabry driving his Super Street “75 Chevy Vega (upper left). Also from Maple Valley running in Super Comp was Jiovanni Collecchi in his 2012 dragster (upper right). There were two local drivers competing in the Super Gas class, Robert Smyth of Hobart in his “97 Oldsmobile (lower left), and Greg Hehr from Ravendsdale piloting his “90 Camaro (lower right).
