Anticipating the usual increase in attendance on Memorial Day, Maple Valley-Hobart Cemetery set up their grounds to host gardeners and “clean-uppers” on a recent Saturday. Chris Mathison, shown in the photo, is a trustee for the cemetery association. She arrived early to begin the tedious process of cleaning her grandson’s and daughter’s gravesites while on her knees. She meticulously cut back weeds and grass overgrowth of the perimeters to add mulch for prevention. The tombstones required a soft brush and water cleaning.
