The name Switcher’s Landing has a special meaning to the family who has owned the land for the past 60 years. Jo Bitney’s dad, a coal miner, was nicknamed “Switcher.” Jo and her sons, Randy and Kim Bowden, used to live on the property and found it fitting the new development be named after her father.
Randy, who dressed like Switcher this morning for the ceremony, developed and drew the logo and image that you will see displayed throughout the property.
This project will be separated into two phases – retail and residential. Retail is phase 1 and will include a Gravity Coffee, Chick-fil-A, 7-11, Valvoline as well as a multi-tenant building. Phase 2 will feature an apartment complex in the back portion of the lot. There will be 216 units available with 36 of those coming with retail space on the ground floor.
Frontage improvements on SR 169 will also be completed including a new two-lane roundabout for access to the commercial space, an additional northbound travel lane, bike lanes, planter strip and a sidewalk.
“This project is a great partnership between the Bitney family, Pallis Properties and the City of Maple Valley,” Mayor Sean P. Kelly said today at the groundbreaking. “We are grateful for all the hard work that has gone into this project. And we’re excited to break ground today and get this project moving forward.”
State requirements for the adoption of the City’s 2024 Comprehensive Planinclude minimum growth targets for housing and jobs. The City of Maple Valley needs to plan for 1720 additional housing units and 1570 new jobs by 2044. The Switchers’ Landing development will help Maple Valley get that much closer to those targets.
The estimated completion time for this project is 12-18 months.
The City of Maple Valley is excited to announce ground broke September 3 at the future site of Switcher’s Landing – a 16.5-acre site located across State Route 169 from Les Schwab Tires.
