Spartan Races In Monroe

Last weekend in Monroe a different kind of race was held.  There were no helmets, no five point harnesses, or ear plugs needed, the kind of racing I normally attend.  An estimated 5,500 runners participated in what is known as the Spartan Races.  There were races for all ages from the little ones to the older adults.  The kids run a mile course while the adults run a 5K race.

Sounds simple, however there are a number of obstacles each group needs to overcome.  Mud pits, cages, crawling under barbed wire, vertical walls, rings, spear throwing, and the list goes on.  Those that finish receive their well earned medal.  Matthew Archer and his daughter Adrienne completed their third Spartan Race this year.  Starting in Montana for a 21K, moving on to Utah with a 10K and completing their Trifecta here in Washington with a 5K.

Not only was Matthew proud of his daughter, but I was too see he is my son and Adrienne, my granddaughter.  Definitely a different day at the races.
