Last weekend July 19th – 21st at Pacific Raceways the NHRA brought the ground pounding thunder of the 35th Annual Mission Foods Northwest Nationals. Three intense days of drag racing from the Sportsman classes up to the Pro categories including the Nitro classes of Funny Car and Top Fuel, as well as Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycle. Three local drivers also competed. In the Super Comp Class was Maple Valley’s own Jiovanni Collecchi in his 2012 Dragster powered by a BBC 572 engine (Top). Along with him was Greg Hehr of Ravensdale in his 1990 Camaro powered by a Chevy 434 engine (Bottom Right). Also, from Hobart driving his 1997 Oldsmobile with a Chevy 541 engine was Robert Smyth (Bottom Left). Greg and Robert both competed in the Super Gas Class. There is still plenty of racing left for the 2024 Season on the drag strip and on the famous road course. Next on the schedule is the NHRA Lucas Oil Divisional Race on August 7th – 11th.
