The Lawson Hills Fire Station, which has been unoccupied since construction concluded last year, is one step closer to being staffed.
On April 21, the Black Diamond City Council unanimously approved an agreement to annex into the Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority. The annexation question will be placed on the Aug 4, 2026 ballot for voter approval, with a simple majority needed to pass.
If approved, the agreement would take effect in late 2027, with Puget Sound Fire assuming full service responsibilities beginning January 1, 2028. Currently, Black Diamond contracts with Mountain View Fire and Rescue for fire and EMS services.
Annexation would allow the city to benefit from a coordinated regional service, allowing emergency personnel to keep pace with growing demand and respond quickly.
