While America celebrates its 250th birthday this year (1776-2026), Black Diamond Historical Society and Museum will hold festivities that include both America’s and the Museum’s birthday – the Museum’s 50th. The commemorative day also honors Black Diamond’s Welsh heritage. The celebration is set for Saturday, June 6th from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Railroad Avenue will be closed. It has been publicized that First President George Washington will formally kick off the festivities at 11:00.

An historic antique car show starts Saturday morning in the Black Diamond Eagles parking lot at 10:00 am. Food will be served in the Eagles’ lounge. Along with the car exhibit, an ice cream truck with cotton candy, Dip’n Dots and Slurpees will be onsite.

At 11:30, a parade of flags from different countries will be led down Railroad Avenue by Sons of American Revolution Fife and Drum Corps & Color Guard. Fifteen minutes later, at 11:45, a ribbon cutting for the newly renovated coal mine exhibit is being held at the back of Black Diamond Museum.

The celebratory day also includes recognition of Welsh heritage in Black Diamond with music from Wales playing. Black Diamond Elementary School’s choir will sing “America the Beautiful”. Writing/drawing submissions from a kids’ contest will be displayed with an

awards presentation to follow. There will be a corn hole game with prizes, a costume contest, a vintage fashion show, face painting and cookie decorating. Pop-up booths related to Black Diamond and the history of America showcase the event.
