On Washington State Museum Day, Saturday, Aug. 8, more than 100 museums across Washington State will welcome visitors. Both Black Diamond and Maple Valley museums will be open on that date as part of the state-wide commemoration of the semi-quincentennial, America’s 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
Black Diamond’s museum is located on Railroad Avenue inside a railroad depot built in 1886. It is open to visitors on Thursdays from 9:00 am until 2:00 and Saturdays and Sundays from 11:00-3:00. Maple Valley’s museums feature the Gibbon Store and a fire engine building, both located behind Maple Valley Community Center. They are open the first and third Saturday of every month, 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.
“Museum Day offers a low-barrier way to dig into history, arts and cultural experiences across the state,” according to Lt. Governor Denny Heck, committee chair of the state semi-quincentennial.
