Local Coffees Serve Atmosphere, Congeniality

It’s a casual place, but fast. Is it time for your early morning joe? Owner of the most recent business to open in Black Diamond is Sabrina Saechoo, a local resident. Her coffee drive-through, Roast Republic Coffee, opened December 1 in time to festively decorate for the holidays. Roast Republic Coffee serves the Java! Java! Brand, a coffee company co-founded by Brett Habenicht in Maple Valley. I am not a coffee aficionado. To me, coffee is coffee but don’t tell that to Wilma Eichler, owner of Black Gold Coffee Company, also in Black Diamond. Her idea for a coffee shop came from personal knowledge that business conversations are often held over a cup of coffee, talking shop at a table. She created a comfortable setting designed to accommodate both groups and individuals. With a newspaper, a laptop, or notes in hand, they always have their “cup of gold,” as Wilma’s father called it.There are many attractions associated with Sabrina Saechoo’s’s new coffee drive-through. Those attractions include its location, the hours of operation, a Kids’ Menu, and home cooked delicacies from a baking company. You can’t drive on Third Avenue heading north out of Black Diamond without passing Sabrina’s attractive building located conveniently in front of the Community Center, the Pawn Shop and Palmer Coking Coal. The open hours serve those coming and going to work, Monday through Friday 4:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Sabrina’s Roast Republic has “specials” on certain days of the week. Mocha Mondays are days for 50 cents off. On Two-Stamp Tuesdays, a punch card gets two holes punched toward an 11th cup of free coffee.

Roast Republic’s competent barista, DeAndra Adsitt, knows the language of brews. Next time you stop by, ask for a “zarf.” It’s not a coffee, but it’s always free. A little known term, “zarf”, according to Readers Digest magazine, is the sleeve that surrounds a hot coffee cup.

Items on the Roast Republic Kids’ Menu are $2.00 while their drinks range from $1.50 to $2.50 for hot chocolate, chocolate milk, and juices. Along with the espressos and non-latte sodas, tea, and fruit smoothies are also served. Mama D’s Farmhouse Baking Company, located in Auburn, provides cookies and gluten free Berry Breakfast Bars and Apple Cake for sale, along with holiday specials. Isn’t it time for that cup of joe?
