City of Maple Valley Breaks Ground on New Farmers Market Location

The proposed location of the Farmers’ Market Relocation Project is on the eastern property boundary along State Route 169. The Maple Valley Farmers’ Market is expected to be designed on one acre with four acres of associated parking. The market is a vibrant community gathering place for not only the residents of Maple Valley but for residents living in the surrounding area as well. With its live music, food vendors, and special community events, the Maple Valley Farmers’ Market lives up to its program axiom, “the Saturday Place to be!” The Farmers’ Market used to reside at Rock Creek Elementary School located across the street from the Legacy Site.

The anticipated opening of the 2020 Maple Valley Farmers’ Market is scheduled for early July. The market will be open every Saturday from early July through late September. Due to the conditions surrounding COVID-19, the market is opening later than usual this summer and will have a few restrictions in place. Because the City of Maple Valley and the Maple Valley Farmers’ Market Board of Directors is committed to establishing appropriate social distancing policies and public safety precautions for the opening and operation of the Maple Valley Farmers’ Market, a COVID-19 Safety Plan is currently being developed for implementation this summer. Market operations will expand in 2021 with more vendor booths.

Tawni Dalziel, Director of Public Works and Community Development for the City of Maple Valley states, “After 20 years in a golden sleep, a portion of the beautiful Legacy Site located along State Route 169 will be gently activated as the new location for the Maple Valley Farmers’ Market. The construction of this project will carefully preserve groves of trees and the natural beauty of the forest. We are excited to share this future community living room with the residents of Maple Valley.”
