Sahara Serves Black Diamond’s History, Mine Life

“Black Diamond and How It Came to Be,” is a performance that combines live music, narration, and photos. They are all on the “menu” at Sahara Pizza on Thursday evening, Apr. 20.

By reservation, community members can join the festive occasion to watch the three-part performance. It begins at 6:00 p.m. It is suggested that attendees arrive a half hour before the one-hour performance to place dinner and drink orders. Reservations for seating are accepted at 360-886-2222.

Black Diamond Historical Society and Museum sponsor the program that documents Black Diamond’s coal mining history. BDHS members presenting the show are: Steve Israel, songwriter on guitar; Keith Watson, narrator between songs; Dee Israel photo presentation.

Steve’s original nine songs include lyrics and photos onscreen about how Black Diamond got its name; why mules were used in the mines; the women’s role and family lifestyle during coal mining era; and details about the rail track that traveled one-mile underground.

By the way, Sahara’s menu for the evening also includes pizza, salads, pasta, and sandwiches!
