While adults reveled in hot brats-on-a-stick, the youngsters gobbled doughnuts on a plate while their hands were under the table. It was the 20th anniversary of Black Diamond Miners Day, replete with silly events and fun for all.

Olivia Mason, age 8, chose a facial graphic to have painted on her face by artist Mariah Deady.

Theme for the event, “Mining for Fun,” was not to be taken literally, but to rejoice while celebrating the town’s rich coal mining history.

Bryn Lnenicka, age five, has a hand full of cash after she and Bruno won first place in a new event at Black Diamond Miners Day 2023. The “Dog & Wagon Parade” advertised that decorative dogs and children should dress alike. Bryn won $75. Bruno won a $25 gift card for grooming service at Deb’s Pet Transformation. ~Photos by D’Ann Tedford
