Is a river, a bridge, or a trestle the defining factor when giving someone directions to your place? Do you begin by saying, ‘after you cross the bridge . . .’? How many bridges or overpasses does one see when traveling through the Maple Valley area from Enumclaw to Renton?
Local historian Bill Kombol is giving a presentation in March on the history of railroad and highway connections between Enumclaw and Buckley. It details how solutions to river flooding shaped the hydrology of King and Pierce Counties. Kombol’s presentation, from 1-2 p.m., on Sunday, Mar. 15, 2026 is titled “Bridges of White River.” It is being held in the in the auditorium at Black Diamond Historical Society Museum, 32627 Railroad Avenue.
Another March event at the museum is “The Ghost’s Grave”. One can check details on the website blackdiamondmuseum.org/events.
