January
The first issue of 2019 started off with the top stories of 2018. Then went into the Cedar River Elementary Watch DOGS Program. The next issue was photos of a tree that came down on St. George’s Episcopal Church. Then the THS ‘We the People’ won State Championship for the 10th consecutive year. January finished up the month with the Cycle of Homelessness addressed at Family Hope Center.
February
The beginning of the month was the story about Reagan Dunn delivering a van into “Working Retirement” In Maple Valley program that provided job skills training. Then Snow, snow, and snow was what everyone had on their minds, as well as Tahoma Cheer bringing home the state title, Heading to Nationals. The third week Cary Collins submitted an article about the snow from a winter on the Dorre Don Road with the Sayles sisters in 1954/55. Then the beautiful photo of Lake Wilderness with the snowfall.
March
Bears Wrestling finish another year in the top ten at state and Mountain View Fire visited the Black Diamond Council giving them new rescue tools. Tahoma’s FFA holds open house and the City of Maple Valley Project open house was held.
April
What a great way April started out with Vietnam Veterans Day and Pinning Ceremony Conducted at Tahoma National Cemetery and Fourth Grade Basketball Team ‘Rain City Hoops’ Winning the state title. Tahoma High School has as one of its primary goals, relevance into the classroom. “Hooked On Fishing” Opening Day Trout Derby on Lake Wilderness. Park Visitors Learn About Watersheds And Water Quality thanks to a grant from King County and Hooked on Fishing 2019 Wrap Up and winners list announced.

The 2019 Tahoma High School ‘We The People’ Team placed 9th In Nation!! Superb Black Diamond Art Alliance Show created Awareness of local talent through education, collaboration. Tahoma National Cemetery hosted Memorial Day Ceremony . About 600 ninth grade students from Tahoma High School in Maple Valley, placed an estimated 40,000 flags at graves at Tahoma National Cemetery this morning in observance of Memorial Day.
June
Grand Opening of the Thunder Dome Car Museum located in Enumclaw on Memorial Day weekend saw the cars and drivers of the Sports Car Club of America. Tahoma School Board honored employees who retired or resigned with 15 or more years of service. Nearly 540 Students received their Diploma Thursday evening, during the 93rd Tahoma High School Commencement Exercises. Kids were happy because Schools got out for the summer.
July
5K Walk/Race, Street Skit, Vintage Fashion Show was held at Black Diamond Miners Day. Greater Maple Valley Unincorporated Area Council announced King County Local Services and Planning and Maple Valley celebrated the Kids Festival. The City of Maple Valley hosted the Summit Park Grand Opening and Maple Valley Invited the public to provide feedback on two Witte Road projects. Members of VFW Post 5052 traveled to the Washington Soldier’s Home in Orting where they presented a check for $1000 and finally Music in Park started.
August
Black Diamond Neighbors and Officer Comment from Experience. Music in Park only had 2 more weeks left at Lake Wilderness Park. VOICE of the Valley Celebrated Its 50th Birthday. ‘Mars and Beyond’ Explodes; Supernova Mission Complete.

50 years ago VOICE of the Valley published its second Issue of the newspaper. Maple Valley native serves with Versatile U.S. Navy Helicopter Squadron. VOICE of the Valley 50 Years in the making continues. 2019 Northwest GM Nationals held at Pacific Raceways.

News from 50 Years ago in the VOICE of the Valley Newspaper. Community Candlelight Vigil in memory of our Military / Veterans was held. Polly Rohrbach Memorial Bench Installed at Lake Sawyer Regional Park. The 22nd Annual Maple Valley Model Train Show was held. Retired Black Diamond Police K9 Medical Assistance Is Needed. Fun was had by all at the Black Diamond Senior Halloween party.

The City of Maple Valley announced Witte Road Improvement Project Public Open House and Halloween party at the Maple Valley Senior Center. The Greater Maple Valley Unincorporated Area Council announced Issaquah-Hobart Road Traffic Issues. Veterans Honored at the Maple Valley Community Center and Pete Ryan turned 90. City Of Maple Valley annual Hometown Holidays Celebration announced.

Two Communities Commit to Exemplary meals provided from home Town “People Who Care” and the Holiday Wreath-laying to Honor Veterans at Tahoma National Cemetery was happening soon. Memorial Foundation requests names within Tahoma’s Historical Boundaries. The Reason for the Season with local churches. Finally, the VOICE of the Valley wished everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
